* Required Fields

Generic Atarax is an antihistamine drug that is used to treat allergic reactions. Histamine is produced during common cold and viral infections. Now this histamine is known to bind with receptor on cells and hence, chemical messengers are released that causes sneezing, itching and also increased mucus production. An antihistamine prevents histamine from binding and stimulates the cells. Once this is injected, it is converted into its active form, called Cetirizine. Although both Hydroxyzine and Cetirizine act as antihistamine, yet it is observed that hydroxyzine causes more sedation.  This medicine got approval from FDA in 1956.

 Mechanism of action:

Generic Atarax is used to treat allergic reactions. The body releases histamine during allergic reactions. This histamine binds with its receptor on cells and causes the cells to release chemical messengers that lead to sneezing, itching and increased production of mucus. Now,  anti-histamine, just like histamine, binds to the histamine receptors. However, when they bind, they do not stimulate the cells to release chemical messengers. Instead it prevent histamine from binding and stimulating the cells.

Generic Atarax is used to treat anxiety and depression. This is also used for the treatment of allergic reactions.
