Augmentin is a combination antibiotic that contains Amoxicillin trihydrate and Potassium Clavulanate as an active chemical ingredient. This medicine is used to treat various types of infection originate by the bacterial micro-organism such as respiratory infection, urinary tract infection, ear infection and dermatitis infection. This medicine shows its action by inhibiting the growth of the bacterial micro-organism. This medicine show more potent action through combination therapy in which both active compounds enhance the overall action by help to each other. This antibiotic does not show effective action against cold flu or viral infection.

Dosage and administrations of Augmentin

This is a solid dosage form. The recommended dose for the adult is 500mg single dose in the every 12 hours or 250mg single dose in every 8 hours. This dose may be increased which depends upon the severe infection such as for respiratory infection this dose may increase up to 875 mg single dose in every 12 hours or 500mg single dose in every 8 hours. This dose is also referred to the pediatric patients who are above the 45 kg.

Missed dose of Augmentin

For an effective response of this medicine, you should not miss any dose. When you missed any dose then you take this medicine as soon as possible but you near to next dose then you take this medicine as your schedule time.

Overdose of Augmentin

Do not take overdose of this medicine because they create serious adverse effects which are gastric pain, gloomy urine, and tiredness and decrease the amount of urine. Please contact with doctor immediately about overdose.

This antibiotic has any adverse effects which may see after the taken this medicine. These adverse effects are  itching of skin, dark urine, anxiety, mood change, faintness, sleeplessness pain the physical intercourse, arthritis, myalgia, convulsion, inflammation of legs and increase the body temperature.

  • Avoid administered of this medicine during the period of lactation due to the excretion of trace quantities in breast milk.

Amoxicillin trihydrate and Potassium Clavulanate antibiotic are classified in the β- lactam antibiotic group.
