What is the use of Beta Val Cream?

The topical cream Beta Val is used for skin related problems. The cream is used to treat severe to mild kind of skin and scalp problems, such as eczema, seborrhoeic dermatitis, and chronic inflammatory skin issues. The cream is also found effective to manage lesions and scarring on face, ears and scalp due to any skin disease like psoriasis, lichen planus and widespread redness on skin. In daily life Beta Val Cream is also used for contact sensitivity reactions, prickly heat, and insect bite reactions. It heals itching, redness, dryness, crusting, scaling and discomfort. 

What is the work mechanism of Beta Val Cream?

Beta Val Cream contains the man-made corticosteroid betamethasone as active content. Betamethasone has both anti-inflammatory properties and immunosuppressive properties which help in relieving symptoms such as redness, itching, scaling etc. Betamethasone works by stopping synthesis and action of enzymes that are involved in the synthesis of substances essential for creating inflammation symptoms. It also works to block cyclooxygenase (COX 1 and COX 2) enzymes which are involved in prostaglandin synthesis. 

What are the constituents of Beta Val Cream?

Beta Cream contains betamethasone valerate 0.1% as active ingredient which is a topical corticosteroid. It also contains white soft paraffin, cetostearyl alcohol, liquid paraffin, sodium phosphate monobasic, chlorocresol, sodium hydroxide and purified water. 

Does Beta Val Cream cause any side effects?

Generally the treatment with Beta Val Cream is safe and does not cause any side effects but in some cases adverse reactions has been recorded with this treatment. Some of the comparatively common side effects include the followings:

  • stretch marks (striae),
  • changes in skin colour,
  • thinning and dilatation of the superficial blood vessels making them visible through the skin,
  • abnormal hair growth

How should Beta Cream be used?

  • Apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected area of skin
  • Repeat the same procedure for the recommended duration (generally 2-3 times daily)
  • The cream may also be used on moist or weeping skin.
  • Gently spread the on the skin and make a practice to wash hands after applying the medication. The left over medication in your hand may get in your eyes, nose or mouth which can affect your health.
  • It is very important to know that this topical cream is intended for short term use. If the treatment is used in kids or facial skin, it should not be used for more than 21 days without consulting a doctor.
