PROMETRIUM 200mg medication is alike to the female hormone progesterone that is naturally synthesized in body. Drug is used to replace the hormone in such condition when your body is not making it sufficiently. In women who are not pregnant and not going in the phase of menopause, PROMETRIUM is used to reinstate usual menstrual periods that have stopped for several months (amenorrhea). Also, Progesterone is applied as a part of combination hormone replacement therapy (HRT) with estrogens to reduce menopause symptoms (e.g., hot flashes). Progesterone is added to estrogen replacement therapy to reduce the risk of cancer of the uterus.

The treatment with PROMETRIUM must be used in direction of gynecologist for assuring maximum health benefits. Before starting PROMETRIUM for any health benefits patient must know the precautions and warnings associated with the treatment. Regular recommended dose of progesterone in females experiencing menstrual irregularities is 200 mg daily. It should be taken before going to bed for the last 14 days of estrogen treatment per cycle. Your doctor may adjust your dosage according to your symptoms. In women who are already on high dose of estrogen treatment the required dose of progesterone may increase to 300 mg per day. Perhaps your doctor suggests you to take this drug in divided dosage such as if the recommended dose are 300 mg daily, you may be told to take 200 mg at bedtime and the remaining 100 mg may be taken 2 hours after breakfast for the last 12 to 14 days of estrogen treatment per cycle.
