Ceftin is the Antibiotic helps in the treatment of certain types of bacterial infections. Ceftin comes under the category of Cephalosporin Antibiotics. Cefuroxime is the main constituent present in the Ceftin. This Antibiotic fights all the bacteria and microorganisms in the human body. Ceftin cures from the mild to moderate bacterial infections. Ceftin is the most popular and trustable Antibiotic.

Ceftin is a semi synthetic Cephalosporin Antibiotics. Ceftin overcomes the certain types of infections such as Urinary tract infection, ear infection, nose infection and skin infection. Cefuroxime is the main active ingredients found in the Ceftin. It disrupts the synthesis of the peptidoglycan layer of bacterial cell wall. Cefuroxime kills a wide variety of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumonia, Haemophilus influenzae etc.

Indications of Ceftin

Ceftin is indicated for the treatment of- uncomplicated Urinary tract infection, uncomplicated Gonorrhea, Skin infections, early Lyme disease, Acute and chronic Bronchitis, Pharyngitis and Tonsillitis.

Drug interactions of Ceftin

These are those medicines that modify the effects of Ceftin when they are taking in combination;

  • Anticoagulant drug- Warfarin and Heparin
  • Antiulcer drugs- Cimetidine, Ranitidine, Famotidine, Omeprazole and Pantoprazole
  • Diuretics- Furosemide, Spiranolactone, Torsemide and Hydrochlorothiazide
  • Anti-gout drug – Probenecid, Colchicine

Contraindications of Ceftin

Under some conditions Ceftin should not be given;

  • If you are allergic to Cefuroxime any other related medicaments don’t use Ceftin.
  • Ceftin should not be given to those patients who are suffering from jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes) and liver disease.
  • Ceftin should not be given to babies under the age of 6 months.

Dosage of Ceftin

The dosages of Ceftin are mentioned below;

For adolescent patients

  • For the treatment of pharyngitis/tonsillitis- The dose of Ceftin is 250 mg orally twice in a day and this course duration should be continued up to 10 days.
  • For treatment of acute and chronic bronchitis- The initial dose of Ceftin is 250 mg orally twice a day and it may be increased up to 500 mg based on the disease conditions.
  • For treatment of unsophisticated urinary tract infection- the dose of Ceftin is 250 mg twice in a day and this course period should be nonstop upto 7 to 10 days.

 Missed dose of Ceftin

Administer the missed dose when you memorize, Skip the missed dose and take the medicine at your next regularly scheduled time.

Never take the 2 doses of Ceftin at the similar time.

 Overdose of Ceftin

In case of overdosing of Ceftin directly call to your doctor and take a medical help from your nearest hospitals.

Some signs and symptoms of Ceftin are stomach upset, diarrhea, and nausea and skin rashes.


Side effects of Ceftin

  • Most common side effects of Ceftin- feeling of nausea, stomach upset, diarrhea, severe headache, joints pain, muscle pain, white patches around your mouth and lips, skin rashes, itching etc.
  • Serious side effects of Ceftin- watery or bloody diarrhea, fever, chest pain, tachycardia and bradycardia (irregular heart beat), unusual bleeding, seizures, jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), suffering difficulty in urination. 

 Precautions of Ceftin

Some precautions should be taken before using Ceftin;

  • If you are suffering from intestinal disorder, liver disease or kidney dysfunction, use Ceftin with some care.
  • If you have watery and bloody diarrhea, never use Ceftin.
  • If you are already consuming any other Cephalosporin Antibiotic like Cephadrine, Cephalexin, Cefprozil, Cefadroxil, Cefazolin and Cefdinir. So, don’t take Ceftin.
