Functions of Bimatoprost eye drop:

The exact mechanism of this medication is still not clear. But it is presumed that this medication is works by the following mechanisms:

  • It decreases the intraocular pressure promoting the outflow of the aqueous fluids from your eyes.
  • It works by managing the drainage of the eye fluids from the eyes.
  • It also inhibits the production of aqueous fluids.

This eye medication is used in the following eye diseases:

  • Ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma.
  • This medication is also helpful when other medications do not work in reducing the intra-ocular pressure.

  • Blurred vision
  • Discomfort in the eyes.
  • Redness of the eyelid.
  • Thickening of the eyelashes.

Storage of Bimatoprost eye drop:

This medication should be stored at room temperature below 30 degree C. The container of the medication should be kept in a moist free and dark place, protected from heat and light. Always discard this medication after 4 weeks of opening.

Dosage of this medication:

This medication should be used only once in a day, before sleep.

Method to use Bimatoprost:

Hands should be washed properly prior applying this medication. All the eye make-up and contact lens should be removed before putting the eye drop. Always use the applicator to apply the eye solution. Discard the applicator after every use. Use a new applicator on each use. Read carefully the instructions given in the leaflet or ask your ophthalmologist or pharmacy person if you have any doubt. Always blot the excess material using a tissue paper carefully. Do not use this medication on the lower eyelids.

In case of missed dose:

You should always take the missed dose when you remember it. But skip it if you recall it near or at the time of next dose. Always avoid a double dose.

You should always take some precautions while taking any medication to avoid the complications. Some of the important precautions which you can take during the course of Bimatoprost eye drop are:

  • Do not worry if the solution of Bimatoprost goes into the eyes, because it can be used in the glaucoma. So it does not harm your eyes.
  • This eye drop should be avoided if you are hypersensitive to any ingredient of this medication.
  • If you are pregnant, you should always consult with your doctor regarding the after effects of this medication.
  • To achieve the positive result, you should not miss a dose and follow the instructions given by your doctor.
  • Avoid touching of the dropper lid to prevent the contamination. Because contaminated dropper lid can cause the infection of the eye. So prevent this, replace the lid after each use.
  • Cap of the eye drop container should be closed tightly after each use.
  •  It takes almost 2 months to give the positive results. You should not use any other eye drop while using Bimatoprost eye solution, because it can worsen the complication.
