Glucosamine sulfate is effective for osteoarthritis of the knee. It might also help osteoarthritis of the hip or spine. It reduces pain, stiffness and swelling in joints of patients of osteoarthritis.

Glucosamine sulfate is a chemical found in the human body. It is used by the body for keeping the cartilage in joints healthy. But natural glucosamine levels drop in aged people. This can lead to gradual deterioration of the joint.  Glucosamine has been found to relieve the pain of mild to moderate osteoarthritis of the knee. Glucosamine may also help in other joint pain of osteoarthritis.

Joints are designed by the cartilage and fluids surrounding them. Some patients of osteoarthritis develop pain, joint friction and stiffness occurs due to thinning and breakdown of cartilage. Glucosamine improves the concentration of the fluids and cartilages of joints and prevents them from break down.

“Sulfate” part of glucosamine sulfate is also important as it is required by the body for production of cartilage. That’s the reason of better working of glucosamine sulfate than other forms of glucosamine such as glucosamine hydrochloride or N-acetyl glucosamine.
