What are the Dosage and Method of use of Fermotid?

Fertomid is supplied in the form of tablets and available at the strength of 25mg and 50mg. The Strength of Fertomid depends on the tolerance capacity and the effectiveness of the patients.

Fertomid is taken only once in a day, for 5 days, which should be started on the fifth day of menstrual cycle. If ovulation is not occurred in the first therapy, a second therapy is started at the strength of 50mg (single dose) on the 5th day of menstrual cycles for another 5 days. A third therapy is recommended if ovulation is not happened. Always remember that the interval between each therapy should be 30 days. After these three therapies, if a positive result is not achieved, it is advised to stop the Fertomid for further use. 

Contra-indication of Fertomid?

Fertomid is not used in the conditions like,

  • Patient who are allergic to any component of the preparation.
  • It is not allowed to use in pregnancy.
  • It cannot be used in patient who suffers from any hormonal tumors.
  • It is strictly avoided in the women who suffer from abnormal menstrual and vaginal bleeding.

What are the Side effects of Fertomid?

Fertomid has the following possible side effects such as:

Like other drugs, Fertomid also has some risks if it is taken more than the required dose like, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, eye problems, dizziness etc. If you catch any overdose reaction, ask medical assistance immediately to avoid further complications.

What are the Precautions of Fertomid?

The physician always takes some precautions before applying the therapy with Fertomid. They will always go for a pelvic examination before prescribing this medication. Some of the precautions can be followed during the use of this drug, such as:

  • It should not be used in pregnant women because it may cause abnormalities to the unborn baby.
  • It can cause some eye problems like blurred vision, eye pain or sensitivity to the light. If you catch any of these problems, talk to your doctor immediately.
  • You should always stop taking Fertomid, if you catch pain in your pelvic region. Any uncertain pain in this area may be an indication of an ovarian cyst or enlargement.
  • Stop taking this medication if you notice a yellowish discoloration on your skin and in the eye. It may be an indication of catching jaundice.

How to start the dose of Fertomid: -

It is very important to know how to start and when to start the dose of Fertomid for successful treatment of infertility. To get the best result from Fertomid, it is advised to start the your dose of Clomiphene 50mg on third, fourth or fifth day of your menstrual cycle, taking one pill of 50mg every 24 hours for five day. To calculate the day’s one can take first day of menstrual bleeding as day one. Some healthcare providers recommend single course of progestin medicine like Provera to push a menstrual cycle, if the women does not have regular period. But recent developments in the treatment of infertility with clomid suggest that the pregnancy rate is higher without inducing bleeding with medroxyprogesterone like Provera. 

During a cycle of 28 days, the ovulation occurs between 14 to 19 days of the cycle. To optimize the chances of getting pregnant with clomid, one must use ovulation predictor kit (OPK) to plan intercourse. The ovulation predictor kit uses the urine sample to predict ovulation by measuring the luteinizing hormone level. The first day of luteinizing hormone surge between midnight to 8 am and the following day are the best time to plan intercourse. This means, checking the ovulation in the morning hour using OPK may miss day one of LH surge. This is advisable to check the OPK in the afternoon might be better to onset the LH surge.

If someone does not want to use the OPK kit, it is advised to have intercourse every alternate day for one week on around tenth day after the menstrual period starts. This may need survival of the sperm in the upper genital tract which may dim the chance in some instances.

After completing the first month of treatment with Fertomid, if the ovulation does occur and pregnancy is not gained, it is advised to increase the dose of Fertomid 50mg each month until ovulation occurs. If the pregnancy does not occur after ovulation, there is no benefit of increasing the dose as there may be some other reason for failure to achieve pregnancy. There are chances that the failure to attend pregnancy is due to man’s infertility. Studies show that pregnancy is achieved within the first six ovulatory cycles when Fertomid is used for infertility treatment.
