MECHANISM OF ACTION of Levitra 20mg

Verdenafil is used to treat erectile dysfunction by inhibiting PDE5. PDE5 (phosphodiesterase5) is an enzyme which carries out the breakdown of cGMP. It is found in the erectile tissue of the penis, vascular endothelium (walls of blood vessels) and retina of the eyes. Nitric oxide and endothelial cells stimulate production of cGMP which causes relaxation of vascular smooth muscles and increases blood flow to various tissues of the body. Sildenafil increases the concentration of cGMP in tissues by inhibiting PDE5. Increased cGMP cause vasodilation of blood vessels of the penis which results in erection.
