Generic Levofloxacin is an effective antibiotic for treating bacterial infection. It belongs to the class of medicine known as quinolone antibiotic. This generic medicine works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria. It is not useful against viral infection, common cold and flu. Generic Levofloxacin is a broad spectrum antibiotic that belongs to the class to drugs known as fluroquinones. It is particularly useful in treating bacterial infections. It is manufactured by various pharmaceutical companies that are located worldwide. Therefore, the medicine is available under different brand names such as Levaquin, etc. The medicine got approval from FDA in December 1996.

 Some other medicine of same class includes:

  • Ciprofloxacin

  • Lomefloxacin

 It is available in various strengths and hence the inactive ingredients also vary with the variation in the strength slightly. The common inactive ingredients present in film-coated tablets are crospovidone, polysorbate 80, polyethylene glycol, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, crospovidone and titanium dioxide. In addition to these ingredients, 250 mg tablets contain synthetic red iron oxide, 500 mg tablet contains synthetic red and yellow iron oxide and 750 mg contains no such oxides.

Generic Levofloxacin should be stored at room temperature that varies from 15-30 degree centigrade. You should protect your medicine from heat, light and moisture. Keep the medicine in such a place where children and pets should not reach easily, preferably in a closed and locked cupboard.

 Mechanism of action:

 Generic Levofloxacin inhibits or stops the bacterial multiplications. This is done by preventing its reproduction and repair of DNA, the genetic material.

 Indication:

Generic Levofloxacin is used in the treatment of infections of skin, lungs, airways, bones, joints, and ears that are caused by bacteria. In addition, it is also used for treating urine infections and infections of the breast.

  • Didanosine
  • Sucralfate
  • Warfarin
  • Ibuprofen

Missed dose:
