Viagra was the first drug launched years back for Erectile Dysfunctions (ED). It contains sildenafil as main medicinal constituent which was discovered by Pfizer in 1988. Viagra sublingual is a new innovation in the hub of ED drugs. It is a dosage form of Viagra which has to be kept under the tongue from where it passes directly into the blood stream. This results in faster onset of action than the normal Viagra tablets. Sildenafil is a Phosphodiesterase inhibitor. VIAGRA does not treat erectile dysfunction permanently and is not a contraceptive. It does not act as an aphrodisiac (sex stimulant); acts only after sexual stimulation. VIAGRA SUBLINGUAL acts within 15-20 mg of taking. Its effect lasts for 4 hours.  It should be taken only once a day.

Erectile dysfunction is the main cause of impotence which is the inability to obtain and maintain erection during sexual activity.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Sildenafil is the therapeutic constituent in VIAGRA SUBLINGUAL which is used to treat erectile dysfunction in males by inhibiting PDE5 (an enzyme found in various tissues of body including penile tissues which carries out the breakdown of cGMP). Once this enzyme is inhibited, it increases the concentration of cGMP in tissues of the penis. cGMP is a chemical in the body which causes relaxation of vascular smooth muscles as well as increases blood flow to different tissues of the body.  The blood flow is increased to the penis and this result in achievement and maintaince of erection during the sexual act.  .
